The collection consists of correspondence, business records, photographs, exhibit catalogs, newspaper clippings and scrapbooks as well as a small library on Inuit art. The materials provide insight into the lives of the artists with whom Mrs. Carlin maintained regular correspondence as well as document in meticulous detail the art objects that were exhibited and sold.

Electra Marshall Carlin (1913-2000), the owner of the Carlin Art Gallereis, was a member of a pioneer Fort Worth family. She attended the University of Oklahoma, Beaver College in Pennsylvania, and George Washington University in Washington, D. C., where she met her husband, H. Lee Carlin. After his death she returned to Fort Worth and opened one of the first private art galleries.
